ECO GREEN
Hybrid Sequestration: Bamboo Afforestation & Biochar Located in the riparian zones of Busia County, Eco Green deploys a hybrid carbon removal strategy across 7,000 acres of regenerative bamboo plantations. This project uniquely stacks carbon revenues by combining afforestation activities with biochar production. The bamboo acts as a rapid biological pump, sequestering carbon at rates up to four times higher than traditional timber. This creates an immediate carbon sink in the standing biomass, which is verified under Verra’s afforestation standards. Simultaneously, harvested biomass is converted into biochar, mineralizing the absorbed CO2 and locking it away for centuries, generating durable removal credits via Puro.earth. This dual-stream approach maximizes carbon density per acre while regenerating the local ecosystem. The deep, fibrous root systems of the bamboo mitigate flood risks and arrest soil erosion, while the project drives the local green economy by providing a sustainable alternative to wood fuel and driving rural employment.
HYGROW ORGANIC FIELDS
From Urban Liability to Biodiversity Asset Hygrow is an integrated waste management system transforming the environmental liability of landfill organic waste into verified ecosystem assets. By diverting organic streams from landfills for conversion into premium soil amendments and clean fuel, the project tackles the twin crises of methane emissions and soil degradation. The initiative overcomes significant capital and logistical barriers—traditionally obstacles to organic waste management—to deliver high-integrity, additional carbon credits that fund this critical infrastructure. The project generates profound, verifiable biodiversity co-benefits through two key pathways. First, diverting waste drastically reduces contaminated leachate and methane production, directly protecting local aquifers and waterways from eutrophication. Second, the application of our compost-biochar blend restores Soil Organic Matter (SOM) on agricultural lands, revitalizing the soil microbiome and reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers. This creates a virtuous cycle: healthier arable land reduces the pressure to convert native habitats, fostering landscape-level resilience and biodiversity.
CCC BIOCHAR PROJECT
Turning Agricultural Waste into Permanent Soil Value This flagship initiative creates a scalable circular economy model in Machakos County by converting agricultural residues into high-quality biochar and organic fertilizer. By diverting biomass that would otherwise decay or be burned, the project locks carbon into a stable geological sink while producing a nutrient-rich soil amendment. The result is a dual-impact solution: verifiable Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and the regeneration of degraded semi-arid soils. Anchored by immediate access to over 2,000 farmers through established cooperatives, the facility utilizes proven industrial pyrolysis technology to ensure high-efficiency production. Designed for rapid scalability, the project is structured to reach operating break-even within 18–24 months, offering a modular template for replication across the region. This approach delivers high-quality CORCs (CO2 Removal Certificates) while directly bolstering food security and farmer incomes.
