HYGROW ORGANIC FIELDS
Proof of Concept - VCS Project ID 5914
Serving as our active proof of concept, Hygrow Organic Fields demonstrates proven, ongoing demand for our premium soil amendments. This project transforms urban organic waste into "HYGROW"—a high-quality compost and biochar-blended fertilizer—while simultaneously avoiding methane emissions from landfills.
Utilizing a hybrid operational model, it pairs aerobic composting of market and agricultural waste at a central facility with biochar production from rice husks via community kilns.
Project Overview & Impact:
• Location: Kiambu County (central hub) and Kirinyaga County (feedstock), Kenya. • Key Impact: Protects local aquifers, prevents urban pollution, and creates a functional circular economy for municipal and agricultural waste. • Scale: Currently operational and scaling waste processing from 2,700+ tonnes/year, producing 300 tonnes of biochar.Project Status & Carbon Credits:
• Status: Operational since October 2023. VCS Project ID 5914 (listing pending); undergoing initial validation and verification audits by Bureau Veritas for the 2023-2025 period. • Carbon Credits: Dual methodologies generate high-integrity credits with rigorous digital MRV. Totaling ~1,900 to 4,200 tCO₂e/year initially, scaling up. o Methane Avoidance (AMS-III.F): 1,208 - 3,500 tCO₂e/year. o Biochar Removals (VM0044): 692 tCO₂e/year.
